Indonesia: Bali Bike, Hike & Snorkel

This 8 day adventure is designed to showcase all this beautiful island has got to offer. We will ride the very best trails of Bali, witness one of the most spectacular sunrises on the planet on top of an active volcano, and snorkel shipwreck in the coral reef. Along the way we will visit the Jatiluwih rice terraces, explore the Tana Lot Temple, bike through countless local villages, and relax on black sand beaches. The local cycling guides will partner with BikeTourKorea staff to guide you along secret trails and back roads. Moderate biking experience is required for some of the trails, but we always start high and finish low for extra downhill fun.   All along the way we will be enjoying photography stops with a professional photographer as one of our guides.     Day 1: Canggu | Arrival day

    When you arrive at the airport our team will be waiting for you, simply look for the sign with your name on it. The drive to the famous surfing area of Canggu takes approximately 35 minutes. There are no activities planned during the day, so if you have extra time you can relax at the pool or recover from your journey. In the evening we will head out for a local meal where you will get to meet your fellow travelers and the rest of the team.

    Day 2: Canggu | Cycle 55km

    Time to hit the trails! There is no need to pack up today as we will ride all the way back to our charming accommodation in Canggu. An early transfer will bring us to the slopes of Mount Batu Karu (2276m) and the Jatiluwih Rice Terrace, which is a World Heritage Site. This mostly downhill ride traverses down through scenic rice fields high on the mountain and finishes at the beach down the street from the hotel. There is an early exit option after 35km. After the ride we can visit the famous Tana Lot Temple. Built on a rock in the ocean, this temple is surrounded by the sea at high tide. Epic riding, two world hertiage sites, and a jump in the ocean, all in just your first day!

    Day 3: Amed | Cycle 40km

    Today we pack up and head to Bali’s quiet North East Coast for the next two nights. Amed is a stretch of quaint beach side fishing villages along the dry and rugged northeastern coast of Bali. It’s a secret paradise with amazing views of Mount Abang that seems to be a world away from the busy tourist centers in South Bali. Get ready for a real mountain bike adventure, because today’s ride is more trail orientated, and we hit some sweet singletrack. Again we will begin with epic views in the high country and then make our way down to the coast.

    Day 4: Amed | Snorkeling / Optional Cycle or Beach Time

    Amed is one of the premier diving destinations in the world, with crystal clear blue water, tropical fish, and a Japanese shipwreck just off the coast. We will spend the first half day snorkeling the easily accessable coral reef. For those who can’t get enough cycling, we have a great 3 hour ride planned in this area that follows the beautiful coastal roads with amazing roads and quaint villages. It’s very hilly in this area, so strong legs are needed for this one!

    Day 5: Mount Abang to the coast | cycle 35km

    Time to pack up and go again! For the next two nights we will be in Ubud – the cultural capital of Bali. By now you will more confident on the bikes and familiar with the kind off terrain that we are riding, so we can enjoy the best mountain biking yet. We start with an early transfer from our hotel to the highest regions of the island at the volcanic core. From our 1600m starting point, we will traverse and descend across the slopes of three different volcanoes. The scenery will simply take your breath away as we ride the singletrack along the rim of the volcano.

    Day 6: Mount Batur to Ubud | cycle 45km

    Today’s ride will take us from the outer crater rim of Mount Batur all the way down to Ubud, we will cycle mostly downhill on a wide mixture of terrain, the ride is a little easier today but the scenerary is again amazing. We end right at our charming hotel located in the art district of Ubud. We should arrive around 3pm in Ubud, time enough for some sightseeing and exploring of Ubud, including the famous Monkey Forest which is always a great photo opportunity.

    Day 7: Hike to the summit of Mount Batur | hike

    Today we will conquer the Volcano of Mount Batur. To witness Mount Batur at sunrise is to experience one of the most endearing displays of the earth’s eternal awakening. Our trekking guide will pick you up around 2am. Expect to start hiking around 3am and be back at your hotel around 11.30am. We will check out before noon then transfer to the South for a great last night in Kuta. In the evening we will head out for a sea food BBQ at the Jimbaran fish market!

    Day 8: Departure Day

    Today is departure day and there are no activities planned. Check out time is noon. Please let us know your time of departure and we will arrange an included airport transfer or transfer to your next destination in the Southern beach areas of Bali.

    You can choose between a Giant Trance full suspension bike or a Giant ATX Pro hardtail bike. All our bikes are very well maintained and get checked and serviced every time before they go out with a client. Every year we upgrade large parts of this fleet and chances are you will be riding a brand new or 6 month old bike.

    We have size Small, Medium or Large available. For added comfort you may consider bringing your own seat and pedals which we can easily fit onto these bikes. Please let us know your height at the time of booking so we can prepare and reserve the correct bike size for you. Our bikes come standard with flat pedals but we do have Shimano SPD pedals available as well. We do not have riding shoes available.

    Visa: US citizens do need a visa to travel to Indonesia, but it can obtained at Passport Control at the port of entry for $25, valid for 90 days. A valid passport is required.

    Trip Insurance: We recommend you purchase travelers insurance as soon as you have booked your tour, as some travelers insurance policies must be purchased within 10 days of booking. Our preferred vendor is Travelex.

    Ride Level: Moderate, you should have reasonable bike skills and an average level of fitness in order to fully appreciate and enjoy this tour.

    Biking Conditions: We ride on everything from single track, jeep track, dirt road, farm trails, and more. Although we will be cycling mostly downhill you will have some uphill sections to cope with. Due to the nature of the trails our support vehicle can’t ride with us all the time. The trip is designed so that both beginners and more experienced riders can enjoy the rides.

    Number of Participants: Min. 15, Max. 20 participants.

    Cancellation Policy: Cancellation must be made in writing. The date we receive the cancellation letter determines the applicable cancellation charge.
    Cancellation fees are as follows:
    Booking date to 60 days prior to departure – 10% of total trip cost per person;
    59 to 30 days prior to departure – 50% of total trip cost per person.
    29 to 0 days prior to departure – 100% of the total trip cost per person.
    If air flights are included, there are no refunds once the air portion has been ticketed.
